Switzerland

We had an awesome time in Switzerland getting to know our nephew and nieces. My brother showed us around the area some, and we did LOTS of walking.

Orvin

Orvin is the town where my brother and his family live. The town is VERY small as you can tell from the panorama below. The picture was taken while on a walk to Magglingen.

Magglingen

In Magglingen we caught the funicular down to Biel, which is the "Big City." A funicular is a neat little train that is on a fixed incline and only goes up and down the same hill. It was a fast way down the hill to Biel and a fun ride. (The walk up to Magglingen was not fast...) The picture below is a view from inside the Funicular.

Biel

In Biel we went to the Neuhaus Museum, did some grocery shopping and took the bus back up to Orvin.

Avanche

Avanche was an hour and something train ride (each way) away from Orvin with 2 train changes. The Swiss train system is amazing and the trip was a pleasure. (Make sure you use the bathroom on the train, as finding open, free bathrooms in Switzerland is not easy!)

Avanche is home to several Roman buildings and a rather large ampitheater. We ate a quiet picnic lunch amongst the ruins and continued up to the ampitheater.

Murten

Murten is a walled medieval city that we stopped by on the way back to Orvin from Avanche. Aparently the night before had seen lots of partying in both Avanche and Murten and the cities showed the signs of it.
